Is it worth doing a program from LabinMotion? What is unique about the offerings?

The advantages of doing LabinMotion programs are as follows –

  • Faculty taking sessions have excellent academic credentials – PhDs and MBAs from the old IIMs and other leading B-Schools
  • They have held positions of senior leadership positions in the industry. They come with lots of practical insights and experiences.
  • The faculty members also have teaching and training experience. Most of them teach at the IIMs and other leading B-Schools, and are corporate trainers/coaches. They are passionate about teaching and sharing their thoughts and insights with others.
  • LabinMotion programs are spaced out so that participants can reflect and apply the learnings during the course of the program. It is not rushed.
  • The programs are convenient because they are Live Online. You can take the sessions from the comfort of your home.
  • Save the cost of travel and stay because it is Live Online
  • Most importantly, the programs are very affordable. For e.g. IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad programs for 15 sessions would cost Rs. 90-100K+GST, whereas LabinMotion programs are 50-60% of the cost for similar programs offered by premier B-Schools.

How are the programs different from the Executive Education programs from the IIMs?

Other than affordability, relevance, and convenience, here are a few other points to consider –

  • Faculty delivering sessions at LabinMotion have rich industry and teaching experience, whereas most of the faculty members at IIMs are career academicians who have not experienced the challenges of working from the trenches.
  • The involvement of industry experts in delivering sessions at the IIMs is minimal because of internal guidelines that restrict the engagement of practitioners. 60-70% of the sessions of a program delivered by the IIMs have to be taken by IIM faculty since the certificate is provided by the IIM.
  • However, an academician is immersed in publishing research papers and teaching students. Most of the published research papers are narrowly focused without any relevance to a practitioner. Papers are published because of the requirement of job of a teacher at an IIM.
  • A faculty at LabinMotion leans on the research by leading academicians and focuses on the application of the core ideas, studies research papers, and generates case studies to drive home significant insights that are important and relevant to a practitioner.
  • The LabinMotion programs dig deeper into a subject. It is more vertical than horizontal. Programs delivered by B-Schools are horizontal. A 3-day program at an IIM will have perspectives provided by different faculty that would just introduce a topic without going deep into the subject.
  • A 3-day (15 sessions) program at an IIM is held over 3 continuous days, which does not help with reflections and discussions that are meaningful. A spaced-out program provides the best learning experiences.

How can corporates benefit from LabinMotion programs?

  • For the same cost of nominating an employee to an IIM, corporates can sponsor 3 staff members to a LabinMotion program!
  • Group discounts are available for sponsoring 3 or more participants in a specific program.
  • Corporates nominate a curated list of employees to programs at the IIMs. There are many deserving staff who are not nominated for programs because of a lack of training budget. LabinMotion fills the space of high-quality programs that will allow more employees to attend such programs and create impact for the organization.

What are the benefits for an individual to attend LabinMotion programs?

  • Most Executive Education programs from premier B-Schools are out of reach for most working executives. They are very expensive and drain the savings of individuals.
  • It is important to understand the objectives of attending short-duration programs (15-25 sessions) at premier B-Schools. It is primarily to acquire perspectives, deepen competencies, and knowledge on specific topics that are grounded in theory and practice. Expectations that a certificate from a premier B-School is going to change career progression are highly misplaced.
  • The certificate is good to have, but it is not going to make a difference in itself. What is important is whether a shift in thinking, skills, and knowledge has happened after the program and how that shift can help you and the organization grow into what they want to become.
  • The MOST important metrics to consider before enrolling into any program are –
    • Faculty: If they are alums from leading B-Schools or/and are Subject matter experts, that is a big PLUS.
    • Program Content: The depth of coverage is important to do a deep dive into any specific topic. The web pages of most leading B-Schools do not provide details of the program coverage. It is important to make informed choices based on the content and not get enamoured by the brand.
    • Pedagogy: Use of case studies, industry leader interactions, lectures, role plays, capstone projects, etc., will help in absorbing ideas through different channels of learning. Spaced-out learning program schedules are definitely better than a cramped schedule spread across 3-5 continuous days. Attending programs must not be reduced to ticking a check box and must truly provide an opportunity to learn and improve.
    • Certificate and Verification: A Certificate is the proof of completion of a program and captures the brand value of the program. The IMARTT certificate is an emerging brand that stands for quality. It is important that certificates have some authentication mechanism that allows anyone to verify the authenticity of the certificate. LabinMotion provides a verification mechanism.
    • Affordability: LabinMotion programs are 50-60% lower in cost compared to premier B-School programs of similar duration. Installment options are available that makes it very attractive in helping cash flows for participants.

Most faculty have a PGDM in management? Are they qualified enough?

  • Before the IIM Act 2018, the IIMs in India offered a PGDM, which is equivalent to an MBA. Post the IIM Act, the IIMs award MBA degrees. Also, post the IIM Act, the IIMs offer a PhD degree. It was earlier called FPM (Fellowship Program in Management) which is equivalent to a PhD.
  • Apart from the two-year MBA degree (students have to take the CAT exam), some IIMs also offer other MBA degree programs, such as the 1-year full-time program or 2-year part-time degree-granting program for working executives.
  • IIMs are the premier management education institutions in India, and students have to take the Common Aptitude Test to get admission into the IIMs. The final selection rate into the top IIMs is extremely competitive, with acceptance rates for general candidates reportedly between 0.12 to 1.2% for the 2024-25 batch (according to Careers 360). Around 2.5 – 3 lakh students take the CAT exam every year.
  • Similarly, other leading institutions used to offer a PGDM earlier instead of an MBA
